Summer Youth Employment Program

2008 Youth Summer Employment Guidelines

There are a limited number of youth employment positions this summer with the City and County of Denver. These positions are targeted for youth facing barriers to school completion or employment.  Youth interested in a summer employment must meet requirements for one of the funding sources listed below.  

GF – General Funds
To qualify for the program under General Funds, the youth applicant must be living in a family that meets the below requirements:

  1. Not less than age 14 and not more than age 21
  2. Resident of City/County of Denver
  3. Meets one or more of the seven barriers to school completion or employment:
  • deficient in basic literacy skills
  • a school dropout
  • homeless or a runaway
  • a foster child
  • pregnant or parenting
  • an offender
  • an individual (including a youth with a disability) who requires additional assistance to complete an educational program, or to secure and hold employment

TANF 3-4 Eligibility
To qualify for the program under TANF 3-4, the youth applicant must be living in a family that meets the below requirements.  

  • Not less than age 14 and not more than 21
  • Resident of the City and County of Denver
  • Citizen of the United States or eligible legally documented resident
  • Low income individual (income guidelines will be similar to WIA income guidelines and will be provided to contractor).  Applicant must provide income documentation for the last 60 days.

  1. You can pick up a printed application at DWD Youth Services, 1391 N. Speer Blvd. Suite 520.  Or go online to: http://www.milehigh.com/employment/youthservices/youth_employment_program, scroll to the bottom of the page and print both documents.  Applications must be completed and delivered to 1391 N Speer Blvd. Suite 520.  Incomplete applications will not be accepted. 

The following documentation is required for the listed programs:

For General Funds

  • Photo ID
  • Signed social security card
  • Barrier documentation
  • Proof of Denver residency (if participant is under the age of 18 we will require parents to submit a photo ID and signed social security card)

For TANF 3–4

  • Photo ID
  • Signed social security card
  • Barrier documentation
  • Proof of income for two months
  • Proof of Denver residency (if participant is under the age of 18 we require parents to submit a photo ID and signed social security card)

If your Photo ID is not a Colorado ID, Driver’s License, or a Passport you must bring your original birth certificate to prove your birth date.
