Providing Denver's Youth with the opportunity to gain valuable work experience is an investment in Denver's future. The Office of Economic Development-Workforce Development is committed to assisting youth ages 14-21 in gaining the skills necessary to obtain and retain employment.

Summer Youth Employment Program Application

Get ready for summer job applications:

1. Register for the Governors Summer Job Hunt at www.connectingcolorado.com. This registration will also be required in order to apply for the Summer Youth Employment program. (Click here for Connecting Colorado instructions.)

2. Contact the Social Security Administration NOW to get a copy of your Social Security Card. You can get an application and instructions at http://www.ssa.gov/ssnumber.

3. Contact the Colorado Department of Revenue to get a State issued Identification card or drivers license.

4. You may need to get a copy of your birth certificate in order to obtain a State ID card. You can find information about getting your birth certificate here:

Please note that Denver Youth Employment programs are driven by various funding sources most of which are based on income as set by Federal and State funding requirements. Family income guidelines from 2009 are outlined below and may be used as reference for the 2010 program, but they are subject to change.  In addition, there may be some limited opportunities in programs that allow higher family income.  Please note that if you are chosen to participate, you will be required to provide proof of income for all household members. So be prepared to gather and present documentation of your household income for six months prior to your application.

Especially for Children - Denver children enrolled in the Head Start program are eligible for the 5 by 5 program where they have access to cultural experiences before they reach the age of five. The 5 By 5 Program builds upon Mayor Hickenlooper’s “Invest in Success” initiative on Early Childhood Education.
