Increasing Economic Opportunities for Residents and Businesses, While Reducing Denver’s Carbon Footprint

As a leading sustainable city, the Denver Office of Economic Development has launched Greener Denver, a new initiative that links climate action with economic development. The initiative represents a triple win for the community, benefiting businesses and residents, the environment and the economy. Greener Denver is designed to help local businesses save money, grow the demand for green products and services and train the green workforce of the future.

Greener Denver represents an integrated economic development strategy that builds on Mayor Hickenlooper’s Greenprint Denver initiative and the new energy economy taking hold in our region. The initiative capitalizes on the interrelationship of the following three key program areas:

Green Savings
Through Green Savings, OED aims to increase energy efficiency, increase renewable energy use and expand “smart growth” investments by business and community. Building on the City’s successful greening of the 2008 Democratic National Convention, Greener Denver offers a variety of approaches for businesses to reduce their carbon footprint. OED has partnered with CORE Colorado to offer energy efficiency training and technical assistance through the Greener Denver Business program.

Green Opportunity
The Green Opportunity program area is designed to increase clean technology industry growth and green supply chain development. OED serves as a strong networking advocate for Green Opportunity, working closely with the venture capital community and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory to capitalize on metro Denver’s strong position as a center for the emerging clean tech industry.

Green Talent
Through Green Talent, the initiative works with a number of organizations to create the workforce of the future. Green Talent aspires to increase workforce training and certification for clean tech and the green supply chain while preparing clean tech entrepreneurs.
