Denver's transportation infrastructure makes it the hub of the Rocky Mountain region. U.S. Interstates I-25 and I-70 intersect to provide easy access to other major Colorado cities and the rest of the United States. Denver’s transportation arterials also provide quick access to Denver International Airport, downtown Denver, and neighboring mountain communities.
Denver International Airport (DIA)
Not only is Denver conveniently located midway between both coasts, it boasts the newest airport in the United States and one of the best airports in the world. Light Rail: Denver’s light-rail system is operated by the Regional Transportation District (RTD), rated the #1 transit agency in North America in 2003. FasTracks: On November 2, 2004, 58 percent of metro Denver voters passed FasTracks, a $4.7 billion transportation initiative that will fundamentally shape the way the metro Denver area grows. The FasTracks proposal is a 12-year comprehensive plan that will expand the entire metro Denver light rail system, adding six new lines and extending existing routes and expanding the regional bus network.
Bus Service
Intra-city bus service is provided by RTD, with over 1,100 buses in service and free buses provided along the 20-block 16th Street Mall in the city’s main business district. Seven inter-city commercial bus companies service Denver.
